Your Customers Are Like Sparrows
Bear with me, I know it seems strange, but your customers are like sparrows in more ways than one.
The sparrow is one of the most common animals on the planet. They are more abundant than humans and they follow us wherever we go. They are so common that they are often disregarded, but they are dependent on humans entirely for their food and shelter. Without humans, there would be no sparrows.
But the relationship is mutually beneficial: Throughout history, attempts have been made to rid the environment of sparrows. The outome was always catatrophic: insects that had previously been controlled by the sparrows destroyed crops, resulting in failure of farms, famine and death. Sparrows matter to the survival of humans, too.
Likewise, in business your customers are like sparrows:
A mutually beneficial relationship with your customer is important to the success of your business. Customers may seem abundant with billions of people in the world, but in order to gain long term loyalty of our customers, we must know them and show them how much they matter.
This premise inspired the old gospel hymn that I love, His Eye is on the Sparrow:
I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free, for His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.’ (Civilla D. Martin, 1905)
Let’s show our customers how much they matter and reap the benefits of their loyalty.
